Sports

Welcome to the sport section of the newly revamped TUBES website. Here you’ll find all the news and results from the pride of TUBES!

I’d like to introduce myself as your Sports Rep for the 2009/2010 academic year – my name’s Ryan and I’m a fifth year Engineering Design Student. Having been involved in TUBES Sport for a number of years, playing TUBES football, hopefully I am well placed to deal with any sporting related queries you may have. My role is to set up teams for the coming year and support individual teams with any organisational, financial and (my speciality) social queries they may have!

TUBES enter teams into Bristol’s Intramural leagues and tournaments (www.bristolintramural.co.uk) which show the same competitiveness, fun and rivalry as the full uni teams, without needing to train 4 times a week and pay high registration fees – we often beat the uni teams who also sometimes play in these leagues! These cater for a wide variety of sports – last year we entered football, rugby, basketball and netball teams with great success, which we are looking to emulate this year but with the addition of a mixed hockey team. The majority of the games are played on a Wednesday afternoon with some on a Saturday morning. TUBES support their sports teams by providing kits and equipment courtesy of our sponsors. This year we are also looking to use some of that funding to promote team tours to other UK (and fingers crossed European) Universities – watch this space for further information and individual captain contacts.

TUBES sport is not only about getting sweaty and dirty on the sports field...its also about getting sweaty and dirty in Bristol’s many bars and clubs on the weekly socials which follow the Wednesday games. In the past, these have all been individual per team, all meeting up at the venue for the main Athletic Union supported club night which this year is being held at Basement45. As well as these team socials, I am also intending to bring all teams together for monthly meals and larger social events with an end of season awards night!

All in all, being part of TUBES Sport widens your social network while having a laugh and getting involved in some light hearted (but still very, very, competitive...come on people, there’s pride at stake here) sport.

TUBES Sport is open to anyone studying at Bristol Uni, no matter what age, experience or course so spread the word and get involved! Lets make this year another successful one for our sports teams!
